Dry.

1/21/2011

(In Portuguese)

I bought almost 1,5kg of apples the last time I went to the supermarket,
and for my sorrow they were sweet to death (I like more acidy fruits).
Wel... what to do?
Put in practice an idea that's been in my mind for ages: dry them out.

I prepared a solution with:
- Juice of 1/2 a lime + filtered water to reach 50ml (a coffe cup)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt

I washed the apples and cut slices about 3mm thick, with peel, seeds, and everything on.
I brushed the lime solution on both sides of each slice and displayed them in two baking
sheets, without overlaping.
I put them in preheated oven at 120oC (minimum temperature) for 1h 30min,
flipped them over, let it bake for another 1h 30min.
I've let it cool inside the oven, and they were beautiful, crispy, a wonder.
But since I waven't transfered them to a hermetic jar soon, today in the morning
they were already wilted.
Even so, still delicious.
I'll try it with other fruits some time soon, always keeping in mind that
the juicier the fruit, and the thicker the slices, the longer it will take for them to dry.
I think it's totally worth it, since it's quite simple and easy, and dryed fruits are perfect
as snacks to carry in the purse.
Also, they might be great in a next granola. :)
